Indian Peafowl displays as Monsoon arrives at Ranthambhore (India) #WildPic

Wild Picture of the Day or #WildPic today is on the theme of Monsoons. It has finally arrived at Ranthambhore National Park (Rajasthan, India). The Monsoon in theory gives fresh water to the Indian sub-continent. This mechanism brings rain, regenerating benefits to agricultural, ecological and social dependency in many areas.  The water tables are recharged with continuous months of drought from extreme heat.

Today’s Wild Picture of the Day or #WildPic displays India’s national bird: The Peacock or Indian Peafowl (Pavo cristatus). This display of spreading its feathers occurs as a courtship rituals to attract suitable peahens. The males are normally found in open areas especially early mornings and tend to stay in shades during extreme temperatures in the day. With the monsoon arriving, it will drastically transform the rich flora & fauna of Ranthambhore and signal the change in season.
